The Weekend Wrap: Guardians Steal the ALDS, Brewers Take Game 1, an $8.04M Card, and Norfolk State Rolls 62-0

Monday, October 12, 2026 | Debut edition
One weekend. A five-game baseball comeback. A new football week full of close calls. And a few card headlines worth reading carefully before they become someone’s asking price.
Welcome to the first Monday-morning Weekend Wrap from SNL Sports. Here’s what happened Friday through Sunday, October 9–11, from the hobby to Hampton Roads.
01 / the hobby
Sports Cards / one big number. A one-of-one 2025–26 Cooper Flagg Rookie Debut Patch Autograph was reported to have sold for $8.04 million, around October 6, according to The Collector Nation. That is a reported public sale, not an appraisal. It is a headline, not a permanent market. With a true one-of-one, there may never be a direct comparable sale again. Treat the result as a data point, not a valuation.
A T206 Honus Wagner went to auction through Heritage with a reported estimate above $3 million, while REA’s October auction, roughly 6,000 lots, featured a T206 Ty Cobb “Cobb Back” graded PSA 1. The Cobb is a useful reminder: a low grade on a genuinely rare card can still matter. Grade does not equal value.
More modern notes: Tom Brady cards led the top super-short-print sales in 2026 Bowman Football, according to Sports Illustrated. And StockX expanded StockX LIVE to trading cards, including basketball, football and baseball. A new marketplace may bring more buyer attention, and more fee structures to learn. Read the fees and authentication terms before listing.
Pokémon / plan the budget. The English Pokémon TCG set Delta Reign (ME06) is officially dated for November 6, 2026. Prerelease promos and additional English cards (including Legendary Pyroduct, a Pincurchin illustration rare and Meowscarada ex) have been revealed. Preorders went live on Pokémon Center around September 30. See PokéBeach’s set and product coverage. Preorder versus release-week pricing is a real budget decision; sealed product is generally easier to buy before release than after. No single card’s future value is assured. Japan’s Storm Emeralda release is on a different calendar, as Beckett explains.

Star Wars / entertainment. 2026 Topps Chrome Star Wars is live. Topps has published an early-pull roundup from initial breaks; check Topps’ own article for the details. In general, autograph content, character popularity and Chrome-style parallel chases shape collector interest. Topps has also released 2026 Topps Disney Neon and a Topps Mint Disney product tied to NYCC (Neon / Mint Disney). Other releases on the radar: Topps x Bob Ross: The Joy of Basketball, an NBA card release, and 2026 Topps Mars Attacks Christmas.
Buy / bad buy, our opinion. Good buy: you know the player, product, parallel and grade; you checked completed sales; and you can hold the card if interest cools. Bad buy: paying a premium because of a headline with no close comps, buying presales for a set without a published checklist, or treating a record for one high-grade card as proof a different low-grade common is valuable. No completed sale means no proven market price. An asking price is not a comp.
02 / grading and protection
Grading places a card in a tamper-evident holder and records its condition at a point in time. The certification number identifies that record, making condition easier to verify and insurance documentation or resale conversations easier to organize. A graded card is not the same as an authenticated autograph: grading evaluates the card’s condition; autograph authentication assesses whether a signature is genuine.
Fees, shipping both ways, transit insurance and turnaround time all matter. So does the possibility of receiving a lower grade than you hoped. A grade does not guarantee value. The T206 Ty Cobb PSA 1 illustrates why: rarity and demand may outweigh condition. A high grade on a common card may not carry the same weight.
SNL Sports offers grading support and educational card reports. Our grading page lays out current service details, fees and limitations. A screening opinion is not a grading-company result or guarantee.
03 / collection insurance / Virginia
If your collection has grown, start with the records: purchase documentation, clear front-and-back photos, and certification numbers for slabs. Standard homeowners and renters policies often cap or exclude collectibles, so ask specific questions about your coverage.
Both SNL Sports owners are licensed in Virginia, and local collectors are welcome to reach out to talk through collection documentation and insurance questions. We do not provide insurance or legal advice; confirm coverage and requirements with a qualified professional. You can contact us or call/text 757-777-8586.
04 / pro sports
MLB / Cleveland’s comeback. The Guardians beat the White Sox 2–0 in ALDS Game 5 on Saturday in Cleveland, winning the series after falling behind 0–2. They became the 11th team in MLB history to recover from that deficit in a best-of-five postseason series, and the first since the 2017 Yankees. José Ramírez hit a two-run homer in the fourth on a pitch just 0.74 feet above the ground. The lowest pitch he has homered on in his career, including the postseason. Gavin Williams struck out 12, tying Cleveland’s postseason single-game record. Guardians pitchers struck out 21, the most in any nine-inning MLB game. MLB’s recap has the full story. Manager Stephen Vogt told the clubhouse: “Backs against the wall! Three straight elimination games! You boys showed up. You showed out.”
The NLCS rematch opened with a Milwaukee win. The Brewers beat the Dodgers 2–1 Sunday. Brice Turang homered, Luis Lara drove in the go-ahead run, and Milwaukee’s bullpen finished the job. It’s a rematch of the 2025 NLCS, swept by Los Angeles. Jackson Chourio and Turang are names drawing Milwaukee attention; pitching depth has been the story so far. Game recap.
NFL / Week 5. Baltimore beat Atlanta 30–23 in overtime. Filling in for Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley completed his last 10 passes and ran in the winning touchdown. The 14-play overtime scoring drive was the NFL’s longest overtime touchdown drive since 2018. San Francisco edged Seattle 32–29; Mike Evans, playing through a rib injury, had seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Detroit beat Arizona 45–21. Denver beat the Chargers 23–17, leaving Los Angeles 0–5. The Giants and Washington tied 27–27, the season’s first tie; Washington had led by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Other Sunday results: Jets 17, Browns 12; Steelers 34, Colts 22; Texans 26, Titans 3; Bengals 31, Dolphins 24; Patriots 45, Raiders 17; Packers 31, Bears 7; Vikings 23, Saints 13; Jaguars 19, Eagles 17 in London. On Thursday, Tampa Bay beat Dallas 24–16. Deebo Samuel Sr. left San Francisco’s game injured; Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was knocked out late; and Sam Darnold has thrown five interceptions in three games since returning from a glute injury. Check official injury reports for updates; no timeline is assumed. Monday’s Buffalo-at-Rams game, 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN/ABC, had not been played as of this roundup.
Fantasy / the swing points. Mike Evans’ target share is climbing; Malik Nabers posted a season-high 28.3 fantasy points; Drake London averaged 20.6 points per game over his last three with Penix at quarterback. Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love has been held under eight fantasy points in three of his last four. That’s the sharp edge of a gamble: one Sunday can make a roster move look inspired, or leave your lineup staring at a hole. These are reported trends, not advice.

MLS / six-goal night. St. Louis CITY SC beat the LA Galaxy 6–2 Sunday. Carlo Holse scored a hat trick inside 21 minutes; CITY scored five first-half goals. Rafa Navarro added two goals and two assists. The unbeaten run reached 20 matches across all competitions, matching the league record held by Red Bull New York in 2026. Inter Miami beat D.C. United 4–0, with Lionel Messi scoring twice on his return after Argentina’s international window. Nashville beat Austin 4–1; Toronto FC completed a comeback in the Canadian Classique. Vancouver’s Thomas Müller was listed out with a hamstring issue. Charlotte FC signed Premier League veteran Abdoulaye Doucouré. MLS Matchday 29.
NHL / early days. Standings as of Monday, October 12: Atlantic, Tampa Bay, Ottawa and Boston 8 points; Metropolitan, Carolina 11, Rangers 10; Central, Utah 8, Minnesota and Winnipeg 7; Pacific, Vegas 10, Edmonton 9. Carolina carries a five-game win streak into its Washington matchup; the Rangers host Tampa Bay. The season is only about a week old, so these standings mean little yet. Early hockey card attention often follows young stars and new product, but a fast start is still a small sample. Full standings.
WNBA / Finals set. Golden State Valkyries meet Atlanta Dream in a best-of-seven series beginning Saturday, October 17, at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC/Peacock. Both semifinal series ended in sweeps, and a first-time champion is guaranteed. Atlanta brings a franchise-best 10-game winning streak; Golden State is in its second season. Both ranked first and second in regular-season defensive rating. Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard and Jordin Canada lead the Atlanta names to watch; Kiah Stokes anchors Golden State’s defense. The Valkyries swept the regular-season series 4–0, but both teams call the Finals a clean slate. A new champion may bring more attention to a roster; no pricing claims here.
NBA / next up. Opening night is Tuesday, October 20, with three games on NBC/Peacock: Detroit at Boston; San Antonio at Oklahoma City, a Western Conference Finals rematch; and Philadelphia at New York. The Knicks raise their first championship banner in 53 years, and LeBron James makes his 76ers debut in his record 24th season. Preseason is underway; NBA.com’s October 11 Starting 5 led with Kyrie Irving’s return sparking Dallas in the NBA China Games. For card collectors, watch roles and usage during the first two weeks rather than chasing one preseason highlight. Keep an eye on Wembanyama, Gilgeous-Alexander, Cade Cunningham and the 2026 rookie class.
